16 Members of the Severn Area branch attended The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire.
It was a very moving experience and was blessed by beautiful weather.
The purpose of the visit was to see the 2535 oak trees planted to represent a convoy. That was the number of merchant vessels lost between 1939 and 1945.
Excerpt from a plaque on the site-
"Future generations can see The Convoy grow to it's full glory and not just think of 2535 ship's lying on the sea bed, but of the men and women who served and died aboard them, and of the families and friends left behind.
Their sacrifice was made so that future generations could live in a free and better world".
